NIWA Begins Waterfronts Monitoring, Surveillance Along Bojije-Epe Route

As part of efforts to improve waterways operations and prevent boat mishaps in Lagos, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Lagos team has embarked on a Waterfront Monitoring Surveillance campaign along Bojije-Epe route.

The NIWA Lagos Area Manager, Engr. Sarat Braimah, who kicked off the operations on Wednesday, stated that it is part of the Authority’s mandate to promote responsible maritime practices and enforce compliance by assessing activities.

Her words: “The Authority has undertaken a Monitoring and Assessment Surveillance along the Bogije-Epe route for a myriad of reasons. Our primary objective is to ensure the safety of all users along the route and maintain a secure environment.”

“Our overarching goal is to protect the environment by managing environmental risks and promoting sustainable practices.”

According to her, the aim is to optimize navigation by evaluating infrastructure to improve efficiency, nothing that NIWA has enhanced surveillance to enable swift emergency response and gather real-time data to inform management decisions.

“We value our stakeholders’ feedback and strive to engage them in our continuous improvement efforts. We ensure regulatory adherence to maintain a standardized environment and prevent illegal activities that could compromise security.”

“Additionally, we identify vulnerabilities and improve response plans to improve emergency preparedness. We remain committed to our mission and will continue to pursue excellence in our service delivery,” she said.
