The growing operational alliance between the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigerian Navy has taken a decisive turn with the appointment of Commodore Reginald Adoki as Commander of the Maritime Guard Command (MGC).
The approval, granted by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, signals a renewed push to reinforce naval-backed enforcement within Nigeria’s territorial waters. Commodore Adoki replaces Commodore H.C. Oriekeze, who has been redeployed.
Adoki, a Principal Warfare Officer specialising in communications and intelligence, brings 25 years of naval experience spanning operations, training and strategic assignments. He has commanded NNS Andoni, NNS Kyanwa and NNS Kada. Notably, under his leadership, NNS Kada undertook her maiden voyage from the United Arab Emirates where the vessel was built to Nigeria.
Commissioned into the Navy in 2000 with a degree in Mathematics, Adoki also holds a Master’s in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos and an MSc in Terrorism, Security and Policing from the University of Leicester.
He is currently pursuing a PhD in Defence and Security Studies at the Nigerian Defence Academy and is widely regarded as a decorated officer with multiple service medals.
Welcoming him to the Agency, NIMASA Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola expressed confidence that Adoki’s operational depth would strengthen maritime enforcement and regulatory compliance.
The Maritime Guard Command, domiciled within NIMASA, was created under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency and the Nigerian Navy to bolster enforcement of maritime security, safety regulations and operational efficiency.
