The Chamber also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritising the growth of the blue economy, maritime security, and far-reaching sector reforms that have bolstered Nigeria’s credibility among IMO member states.

As a member of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the NCS said it had actively supported the IMO Council campaign through global advocacy and strategic partnerships, reinforcing Nigeria’s profile across international maritime platforms.

According to the Chamber, the election outcome reflects coordinated efforts across government, regulators, and industry stakeholders committed to advancing safety, environmental protection, capacity development, and sustainable blue-economy growth.

The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping reaffirmed its readiness to work with the Federal Government and the Minister as Nigeria resumes its seat on the Council, pledging continued collaboration, policy advocacy, and alignment with global maritime standards.

Describing the development as “a proud and unifying moment for Nigeria’s maritime industry,” the Chamber said it looks forward to the country playing an even more influential role within the international maritime community.

This information was disseminated in a press statement signed by the Director General of NCS, Mrs. Vivian Chimezie-Azubuike.
