The President, Executive Council, and entire membership of the Maritime Security Providers Association of Nigeria (MASPAN) have extended their profound and heartfelt congratulations to the Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, following his appointment as the 25th Chief of the Naval Staff of the Nigerian Navy.
In a statement signed by MASPAN President, Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa, the group said the new CNS appointment at this critical juncture is a testament to his distinguished service, strategic acumen, and unwavering commitment to national security and the protection of Nigeria’s vital maritime domain.
Part of the statement read: “MASPAN recognises the immense responsibility this office entails, especially given the persistent challenges of crude oil theft, piracy, illegal fishing, and other transnational maritime crimes in the Gulf of Guinea.
“We note with great enthusiasm your pledge to lead a decisive, disciplined, and technology-driven Nigerian Navy, which strongly aligns with the private sector’s goal of enhancing operational efficiency and promoting international best practices.”
Noting that the success of Nigeria’s Blue Economy is inextricably linked to the security of its waters, MASPAN, as a key stakeholder representing indigenous maritime security practitioners and corporate organisations, reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to deepening the existing strategic partnership with the Nigerian Navy.
“We stand ready to leverage our collective expertise, assets, and intelligence resources to support the Nigerian Navy’s mandate under your command.
“We firmly believe that your previous role as the Maritime Guard Commander with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has significantly prepared and equipped you to advance Nigeria’s blue economy development,” the group said.
MASPAN expressed optimism and delight as it anticipates working closely with the new Naval administration to strengthen the synergy between the public and private maritime security architecture, standardise industry protocols, and accelerate the total eradication of all forms of criminality at sea.
