Following a boat accident in Lagos yesterday, the search and rescue team of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has rescued 15 persons, one missing and one confirmed dead.
A passenger boat named T-BEN with 17 passengers on board departed from Addax Jetty on Wednesday at about 1825 hours for Ibeshe but unfortunately ran over an unidentified object in the middle of the channel around the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge which caused a wreckable damage.
In a preliminary report disseminated by NIWA Lagos Area office, the boat captain, in the bid to salvage the situation, sailed to the shore.
“On getting the information, NIWA’s Search and Rescue Team with other agencies sprang into action and were able to rescue 15 passengers out of 17. Currently, one passenger is missing and one confirmed dead.”
“Rescue operation is still ongoing in attempt to rescue the missing person. Further information will be released as the rescue operation progresses,” the waterways authority said.
