As part of activities to commemorate the 2023 International Youth Day (IYD), the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development is organizing a week-long activity centred on business management training for youths.

Youths, climate action advocates, policy makers, waste recycling experts, researchers, students, nonprofits and civil society organizations have converged at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Ikeja to celebrate the 2023 IYD alongside the graduation of trainees from the Amplifier Business Clinic.

The event will explore the theme of this year’s international youth day – Green Skills For Youth: Towards A Sustainable World and the ongoing Lagos edition holds from August 7th -13th, 2023.

Joint efforts by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development and their project implementing partner, Pelse Consulting to ensure youths are grounded with green skills led to the establishment of the Amplifier Business Clinic with over 110 youths where selected, 61 graduates and 5 winners selected after a business pitching contest.

The selected youths were trained by industry experts on Leadership for business growth (Dr Eva Jordans), Team Management and Innovation management (Dr Olusola Owonikoko), Social Media Management for business growth ( Phebe Chile Ebuka) ESG for accessing impact investment (Isaiah Owolabi), Customer Management (Oluwagboyega Boboye), Financial management and Business plan development (Taiwo Obasan), Legal Considerations for business growth (Omoruyi Osagie Ediogiawerie), Developing and delivering a successful pitch (Boboye Adeniji Oluwafemi) among many other experts.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that his administration’s commitment to the full implementation of Green Skills for youths in Lagos raised the need “to re-evaluate the resilience of our value chains, eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature, therefore, the teeming population will be profitably and sustainably engaged, expanding the philosophy for an even greater Mega City”

The event will also feature interactive learning sessions covering diverse topics such as green skills, climate action, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in relations to green skills, waste-to-wealth management, recycling and renewable technologies, business development, policy framework, innovations for social impact and more. Green Innovation For A Sustainable Future and Harnessing the THEMES+ Agenda for Youth Development are two topics that will be broadly discussed during the seminar. Baliqees Salaudeen-Ibrahim, a social impact strategist, co-founder Green Republic Farms and founder, Bay Planet Foundation alongside ’The Sherriff Ademola, a brand and business strategist and growth hacker will explore these topics. They will use their vast experience to train attendees on harnessing green skills for geo-socio-political and economic impact.

With the largest youth population in Nigeria, which stands at approximately 10million, the ministry project’s implementing partner Pelse Consulting wants events like this to be sustained until every youth in Lagos is equipped with green skills for global impact.

The Lagos State Government Ministry of Youth and Social Development has a major goal of creating an enabling environment that promotes youth and social development in Lagos State. The ministry has helped provide an enabling and empowering environment for youth development vis-à-vis effective citizenship and leadership trainings and continuous medical social work services among several other youth-driven initiatives.

Pelse Consulting, however, is a  top tier consulting company that has taken up the global challenge of ensuring economic growth and sustainability development in Africa by providing consulting services to small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
