In a bid to enhance navigational safety for inland waterways users, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has laid water buoys from Gbajibo in Niger state to Gbajibo-Mundi in Kwara state.
The number of buoys used were 10 red colour and 6 green colour. The river is generally deep with the least depth of 21.3m. The Authority is taking this proactive step towards safeguarding our waterways.
These buoys serve as critical markers, indicating safe Navigation channels, warning of hazards and designating protected areas.
It may be recalled during the 2025 Management retreat, the Managing Director/CEO Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, FCIB emphasized on safety regulations and improve operational efficiency across the Nation’s Inland Waterways.
This information was disseminated in a statement signed by the Assistant General Manager, Corporate Affairs, NIWA, Mr. Sulaiman Makama.
