Customs agents at the Tincan Island Port took to the roads on Friday, trading their desks and clearing files for sneakers, with a message about the young freight forwarders who keep the trade moving.
The Tincan Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) held a health walk led by its Chairman, Prince Olawale Matthew Cole, and his executives, marching from the chapter’s secretariat to car park.
It was about more than fitness as Cole used the walk to say plainly where the chapter stands on drugs and on the health of its younger members.
“We stand for Zero Tolerance to Drugs. Our youth must stay healthy, avoid slumping, and stay fit.
“Let us walk together today to say NO to drugs and YES to life, health, and future,” he said.
Cole stated that he does not want any young member to slump because of an unhealthy lifestyle, drug abuse or lack of exercise. He, therefore, urged all members, especially young freight forwarders, to embrace healthy living.
The work of clearing cargo can leave little time for personal health. Cole’s call suggests that, for the chapter’s leadership, a member’s wellbeing is part of the association’s responsibility.
The chapter also named unity as a goal. Walking together, it said, brings members closer and strengthens the bond among them. It listed the benefits as better cardiovascular health and energy, stronger mental and physical wellbeing, and a sensitisation campaign urging young people to stay away from drugs.
The chapter’s message throughout was; “No Drugs. Stay Fit. Stay Healthy”
Publicity Secretary, ANLCA Tincan Island Port, Onome Joy Monije, said the walk was only a starting point.
“Let your healthy habits do the talking. A healthy and stronger chapter begins with healthier members. Always create time to do exercise and ensure that you eat healthy meals.
“Enjoy your rice, eba or yam without overloading the plate. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Let today’s walk become a habit, and let healthy eating become our daily message,” she added.
The walk was organised by ANLCA Tincan Chapter, and the statement was signed by Publicity Secretary Onome Joy Monije and Secretary Frankypaul Nwegbe on behalf of the Chairman.
