Members of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) are set for a table tennis tournament as part of activities marking the association’s 72nd anniversary.
The novelty tournament, scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2026, will hold at the Not Bad Sports Arena, Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Lagos, from 12 noon.
The Local Organising Committee Chairman and ANLCA Vice President, Prince Segun Oduntan, urged members from the association’s various chapters, business partners and friends to turn out for the event, describing it as an opportunity to promote bonding and camaraderie among members.
“ANLCA will be 72 on September 29th, and part of the activities lined up is a table tennis tournament.
“We want to put the sport activity in place so that we can create bonding among our members. We have chosen one person to come from each chapter so that we can relax after the games, share thoughts, banter, laugh and eat together,” Oduntan said.
Oduntan said the anniversary programme would also include a remembrance day on Monday, September 28, to honour deceased members, alongside an outreach to widows and less-privileged members.
He added that ANLCA President, Emenike Nwokeoji, would distribute palliatives to members in need, with the initiative expected to cover the association’s four zones.
Meanwhile, the Sub-Committee Chairman, Media and Publicity, and Chairman of the Table Tennis Tournament, Emmanuel Onyeme, said preparations had been concluded for a hitch-free competition.
Onyeme, who is also ANLCA’s National Publicity Secretary, urged participants to prepare for what he described as a competitive and memorable sporting outing.
Nine fixtures have been released for the opening round, featuring representatives of chapters including Tin Can Island, Kano, PTML, Ibeto, Apapa, Onne, Lekki Port, Oil & Gas, Ikorodu, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Abuja, Idiroko, Port Harcourt Airport, MMAC, Seme and KLT.
The 72nd anniversary celebration will climax on Tuesday, September 29, at Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, with activities scheduled from 9am.
Oduntan said the grand finale would feature a daytime session followed by a gala night to recognise individuals and organisations that have contributed to ANLCA’s development.
The event is expected to attract senior government officials and industry stakeholders, including Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi; former ANLCA President, Peter Okocha, who will chair the occasion; and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
Also expected are; Dr Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service; Olori Vicky Haastrup, Chairperson of ENL Terminal; bankers, shipowners and other maritime industry stakeholders.
With the anniversary programme combining sport, remembrance, welfare and recognition, ANLCA is positioning its 72nd anniversary as a celebration of both its history and the people who have sustained the association over the decades.
