The President of the Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria and Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council, Chief Mrs. Jean Chiazor Anishere, SAN, has been honoured with an Award of Honour in recognition of her outstanding contributions to maritime law and arbitration in Nigeria.

The recognition was conferred during the Maiden Edition of the National Maritime Arbitration Competition 2026, organised by the Maritime Forum, University of Lagos (UNILAG) in partnership with Bloomfield LP.
According to the organisers, the award was presented in recognition of Anishere’s “distinguished support, contribution, and commitment to the success of the Maiden Edition of the National Maritime Arbitration Competition,” as well as her enduring impact on the advancement of maritime law and arbitration.
The organisers further noted that her dedication to strengthening alternative dispute resolution mechanisms within the maritime sector has continued to inspire legal practitioners, industry stakeholders, and aspiring maritime lawyers across the country.
Although unable to attend in person, the prestigious honour was received on her behalf by Mrs. Rollens Macfoy, African Vice President (Anglophone Countries) of the WIMAfrica, and the immediate-past President of WIMA-Nigeria, who represented the senior advocate at the event.

Signed by the President of the Maritime Forum, University of Lagos, Dare Tunde Damilola, the citation underscored Anishere’s strategic role in promoting excellence in maritime legal practice and arbitration, particularly through her leadership of the Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria.
The recognition adds to Anishere’s growing profile as one of Nigeria’s foremost maritime legal experts, with stakeholders describing her contributions to maritime dispute resolution, policy engagement, and institutional development as pivotal to the growth of the nation’s blue economy and maritime justice framework.
