Workers’ Day: Oyetola Salutes Maritime Workforce, Reaffirms Reform Drive

Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has commended maritime workers for their resilience and critical role in sustaining the nation’s economy, as the country marks the Workers’ Day 2026.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, the Minister described the maritime workforce as the backbone of Nigeria’s trade ecosystem, highlighting their contribution to cargo movement, port efficiency, and revenue generation.

Oyetola paid tribute to seafarers, dockworkers, port administrators, marine engineers, fishermen, and regulators, noting that their daily efforts continue to drive the sector’s growth and reinforce its position within Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda.

He stressed that the industry’s steady progress reflects the dedication and professionalism of its workforce, particularly in advancing trade facilitation and maintaining operational stability across the nation’s ports and waterways.

The Minister also underscored the growing importance of the Blue Economy, pointing to the role of maritime professionals in promoting sustainable resource management, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

Reaffirming government’s commitment, Oyetola said efforts are ongoing to improve working conditions, strengthen maritime security, modernise port infrastructure, and implement policies that safeguard workers’ welfare and dignity.

He urged stakeholders to sustain high standards of professionalism and integrity, expressing confidence that a disciplined and motivated workforce remains central to building a globally competitive maritime sector.
