Dangote Cement Plc has renewed its commitment to making Africa fully self-sufficient in cement production, positioning the company as a key driver of the continent’s industrial growth and reduced reliance on imported building materials.

Speaking at a strategic briefing on the company’s expansion plans, the Group Managing Director, Mr. Arvind Pathak, said Dangote Cement is accelerating investments across African markets to bridge supply gaps and support rising infrastructure demand.

“Our vision is to ensure Africa produces enough cement to meet its needs. Through expansion, operational efficiency and a strong distribution network, we are powering growth across the continent and building Africa’s future,” Pathak said.

He disclosed that Dangote Cement, Africa’s largest producer, is targeting a production capacity of 90 million metric tonnes per annum by 2030, adding that the company has already eliminated Nigeria’s dependence on imported cement and transformed the country into a net exporter to neighbouring markets.

Dangote Cement currently operates integrated plants, grinding facilities and distribution hubs across several African countries, supported by ongoing plant upgrades, capacity expansion and the adoption of energy-efficient technologies to cut costs and reduce carbon emissions.

Reinforcing the vision, the company’s founder and President, Aliko Dangote, described self-sufficiency as an economic necessity for Africa.

“Africa has no reason to depend on cement imports. We have the raw materials and the talent. Our goal is to ensure every African country has access to affordable, high-quality cement produced on the continent,” Dangote said.

With infrastructure projects expanding across Africa, Dangote Cement said its drive for self-sufficiency will help stabilise supply, moderate prices and strengthen the region’s construction sector.
