As Nigeria’s maritime sector navigates a rapidly evolving economic and operational landscape, the President of Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA) Nigeria, Mrs. Theodora Nwaeze, has set a bold and unifying tone for 2026, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to empowerment, collaboration and innovation as key drivers for women’s advancement and industry growth.
In her New Year message to members and stakeholders, Mrs. Nwaeze described the transition into 2026 as “a new season of opportunity and renewal,” noting that the ability to witness another year is a testament to resilience, collective strength and grace amid persistent sectoral challenges.
She expressed deep appreciation to women across the maritime value chain for the confidence and responsibility reposed in her leadership throughout 2025, stressing that the trust has laid a solid foundation for a more impactful and inclusive year ahead.
“Our vision remains firmly anchored on empowerment, collaboration, innovation and national visibility,” the WIMA Nigeria President stated, adding that these pillars will continue to shape the association’s policies, programmes and partnerships in the new year.
Mrs. Nwaeze also paid glowing tribute to Nigerian seafarers and maritime professionals, whom she described as the unsung backbone of the nation’s maritime economy. Despite harsh sea conditions and operational constraints on shore, she noted, their dedication and sacrifice have continued to keep trade and commerce afloat.
Looking ahead, the WIMA Nigeria President said 2026 presents a fresh horizon for stronger stakeholder engagement, strategic partnerships and initiatives aimed at elevating women’s participation, leadership and visibility within the maritime industry -:both locally and on the international stage.
Calling for unity and renewed determination, she urged members to move forward with courage and a shared commitment to achieving more together, while reinforcing WIMA Nigeria’s role as a formidable platform for advocacy, capacity development and industry influence.
Mrs. Nwaeze concluded by wishing members and stakeholders a prosperous, peaceful and purpose-driven New Year, expressing confidence that 2026 will deliver greater impact and boundless opportunities for women in maritime.
“Ubuntu, Ubuntu, Ubuntu,” she declared – underscoring the spirit of shared humanity and collective progress that continues to define WIMA Nigeria’s mission.
