Maritime Editors To Hold Seminar, Award Ceremony In Lagos On Tuesday

The League of Maritime Editors (LOME) will on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025 hold its Seminar and Award ceremony at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.

The maritime industry seminar comes with the theme on the recent election of Nigeria as the Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.

Part of the seminar is also an award to be conferred on few industry chieftains for their glaring contributions to the industry.

In a press statement signed by the President of the League, Mrs. Remi Itie and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Francis Ugwoke, the theme for the seminar is “Nigeria’s Chairmanship of WCO Council: The Expected Benefits for the Nation’s Economy”.

Adeniyi was elected on June 28, 2025, as the first Nigerian to hold the prestigious position since the WCO was founded in 1952.

Specifically, the seminar will discuss the expected economic gains of the position to Nigeria and indeed the West African sub-region.

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who is also the Chairman of the WCO Council is scheduled to be at the event as a Special Guest of Honour, while a renowned customs broker, Chief (Dr) Eugene Nweke will give a keynote address as the Guest Speaker on the occasion.

The event shall also have the various maritime agencies of government give short take lectures on different topics concerning trade facilitation as it affects the industry.

As part of the programme, the League will also be conferring award on some industry stakeholders for their contributions in the sector.

Among those to be honoured on the occasion to be chaired by the former Retired Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Charles Edike, are; the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Pius Akutah, among others.

Expected at the event are industry stakeholders, including chief executives of the agencies in the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, providers and consumers of shipping services and others.
