Call for Entries: MWP opens application for 5th Creative Writing Bootcamp

The Maritime Writes Project (MWP) has announced the opening of applications for its 2025 Creative Writing Bootcamp which is the 5th edition of the annual book-writing event.

In order to qualify for the 2025 Creative Writing Bootcamp, applicants are expected to submit an entry essay on “My Blue Economy” on or before July 31, 2025.

While announcing the call for entries, the Project Coordinator, Ezinne Azunna noted that this year’s edition features Junior and Senior categories with Junior Category aged 7-11 years tasked with creating a Pencil Drawing/Cartoon with 50 words titled: “My Blue Economy.”

For the Senior Category, however, Ezinne noted that the age bracket is 15-60 years and they will be expected to develop a 250-word essay on the same title.

Ezinne assured that those who qualify for the 2025 bootcamp will enjoy quality trainings by the MWP faculty members and rich maritime industry knowledge from the sector experts.

“Besides the training, participants have the chance of interacting with captains of industry who will serve as mentors during the training. We also offer each participant an opportunity of becoming published authors as the best works will be selected for publishing.”

“In November 2024, during the African Maritime Arts Exhibition (AMAE), we unveiled 3 books comprising 17 stories written by mostly young students who participated in MWP between 2021-2023. The books are titled; 3 Dreams & a beach and other maritime short stories; The Surfer in me and other maritime short stories; and The Water Guard and other maritime stories,” she said.

While disclosing the event’s theme: “Blue Odyssey: Securing Nigeria’s EEZ, Ports and Blue Economy – Stories of Sea Guardians, Trade Routes and Coastal Adventures,” the Project Coordinator added that a boat cruise will be part of this year’s bootcamp.

The Creative Writing Bootcamp will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos it will be free for all qualified participants.

According to the event organiser, Microsoft Word or PDF are the acceptable formats for the submission of essay applications.
