WIMA Nigeria Confers Ambassadorial Status On NIWA Lagos Boss, Sarat Braimah

The Lagos Area Manager, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Engr. (Mrs.) Sarat Braimah, has been decorated as a WIMA-Nigeria Ambassador.

African Women in Maritime (WIMA) Nigerian Chapter decorated the NIWA Lagos boss, Braimah, in the new capacity when the group, led by its President, Mrs. Rollens Macfoy, paid a courtesy visit to NIWA Lagos office on Tuesday.

Speaking on behalf of the association, the President, Mrs. Rollens Macfoy, emphasised that in the context of blue economy, WIMAFRICA and NIWA belong together as they are both geared towards the sustainable use of ocean resources.

Her words: “The core aim of Blue Economy strategy is aimed at sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods and job creation, while preserving the health of ocean ecosystems.

“WIMAFRICA, like NIWA is geared towards the attainment of this blue economy goals. To this effect, therefore, the association being first of its kind in Africa ought to work in cooperation with NIWA to optimise this goal in Nigeria.”

The Area Manager, Engr. Sarat Braimah, who was embellished by WIMA-Nigeria last year as a Maritime Amazon, expressed appreciation for the new decoration as WIMA-Nigeria Ambassador.

Braimah also pledged to enhance her commitment to women development with the blue economy even as she committed to improved performance on safety and other regulatory affairs at NIWA.
