WIME Awards made this appeal in a message disseminated in commemoration of the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) themed: #accelerateaction.
In the statement signed by Dr. (Mrs.) Chizoba Anyika, the Advisory Board Chairperson, WIME Awards, stressed that access to good education and strategic support programmes equip women with skills to secure better-paying jobs.
“There’s need to ensure that women have access to financial services, such as savings accounts and loans and be encouraged through and support for women-led maritime and energy businesses,” she posited.
Anyika, however, described this year’s IWD theme as profound and a clarion call to move beyond discussions and engagements towards a swift and quicker progress in achieving gender equality.
“It is that time of the year for the 2025 WIME Awards and we will be honouring impacts, accelerating gender diversity, equity and inclusion action. Details are on our website

“In WIME, we believe that gender equality is about giving everyone, regardless of gender, the opportunity to succeed, to be heard, and valued.
“We understand that accelerating action for women’s empowerment and gender equality is crucial for creating a just and equitable society that is why on WIME platform, we amplify the voice of the women in maritime and energy sectors through recognition and awards,” she stated.
The group also advocated for positive representation of women in the Maritime and Energy sectors and challenged discriminatory attitudes in redeployments and promotion of women.
Meanwhile, WIME recommended that programs be developed to deliberately support and strengthen women-led organizations and movements in addition to increasing their representation and participation in decision-making positions within the sectors.
