Apapa Customs Attains Historic N2trn Revenue Collection

We have collected 40% of Customs 2024 revenue - Olomu

The Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has attained a historic revenue collection of N2.01 trillion in 2024 alone.

Comptroller Babatunde Olomu fsi, Apapa Customs Area Controller, disclosed this while addressing the Command’s officials during a parade on Wednesday.

His words: “As at the close of work yesterday, November 19th 2024, we had generated N2.014trillion for the government. I congratulate all the Command officers on this spectacular achievement despite the drastic decline in port activities.”

“Achieving this shows that we made a lot of sacrifice to close loopholes and we also had the robust collaboration of stakeholders who have become our partners, especially freight forwarders.”

The Apapa Customs boss observed that the Command contributed to about 40 percent of the entire N5.07trillion the NCS had generated as at November 12th, 2024.

Olomu, however, encouraged the Command’s officials not to relent in their efforts as the NCS Comptroller-General, Adewale Adeniyi MFR, already increased NCS revenue target by 10 percent and Apapa Customs has its new target set at N2.2trillion.

Olomu seized the opportunity to lecture the officials on the Command’s new approaches in line with recommendations and submissions deliberated at the recent Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) conference in Abuja.

“Customs officials shouldn’t be involved in freight forwarding business. If you want to venture into that business, then you must drop the Customs uniform to be able to do that.”

“The sum of N2trillion wasn’t easy to collect from our partners, so it is important to engage them and reward the compliant ones. An end of year party will be held for this celebration after getting approval from the Customs headquarters,” Comptroller Olomu said.

Some of the Command’s officials were equally recognized and given plaques for distinguishing themselves for excellence in their operations and conduct.
