One of the candidates contesting for the membership of Board of Trustee (BOT) at the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Alhaji Babatunde Mukaila, has commended the electoral plan to have simultaneous voting across the zones.
Mukaila, while speaking with journalists on Tuesday, also expressed optimism that the actions of the Association’s Electoral Committee (ASECO) has inspired confidence in attaining a transparent and hitch-free election.
According to the former ANLCA National Secretary, the decision to have simultaneous election at the three zones would be seamless and cost-effective, even as it eliminates the difficulty of licensed Customs agents travelling to one location for the polls.
He equally opined that the association’s decision at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting last week to have only Directors of respective Licensed Companies participate in voting would curb the tendency for vote buying and unruly conduct.
“The electoral processes are going well. The idea to have a simultaneous election across the zones is laudable. Anybody that has sympathy for me as a voter no longer has to travel from Abuja or Port Harcourt to Lagos. People can vote from their respective zones. It behoves on the aspirants to have agents in the respective zones to canvass their interests.
“I know that the ASECO, National Executives and the entire association is doing its best to ensure that this BOT election is seamlesss and everyone complies with the rules.”
“I want see a situation where the aspirants are engaged and the media could encourage these contestants to discuss salient issues,” Mukaila remarked.
Meanwhile, he challenged the other contestants to have issue-based campaigns to ensure that ANLCA members wouldn’t be lost in thoughts about what the candidates actually have to offer the association.
When quizzed about his competitive advantage in the BOT electoral race, Mukaila asserted that his role as the Association’s National Secretary for years availed him the privilege to welcome several members, especially directors of Licensed Companies.
“I have had the honour and privilege of welcoming many members into the association as ASECO Chairman, National Secretary and briefly as Sole Administrator. I am privileged to know most of the Directors and my strategy is to engage them,” Mukaila said.
