
- Comptroller Bomodi decorates 34 newly promoted officers
Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N5,946,174,156.62 in 2023 at the Seme Area Command, surpassing the Command’s revenue target by over N3.9billion.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Seme Area Command, Comptroller Timi Bomodi, revealed this while speaking at the decoration ceremony of the Command’s 34 newly promoted officers.
His words: “The Command revenue target for year 2023 was N1, 966,000,000.00 only. As of 31st December 2023, the Command collected N5,946,174,156.62 only. The above figures surpasses the set target for the Command by N3,980,174,156.62 only, which represents a 297% addition.”
Comparing the 2023 revenue figures to the corresponding period of the year 2022, Bomodi noted that there was a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 322℅ as the Command collected N1,409,498,950.08 in 2022 and 2023 figures increased by N4,536,675,206.54.
“The 2023 revenue collection was the highest collection since 2019. This reinforce our commitment to ensure that the Lagos – Abidjan corridor is perceived more trade enabler with huge potentials for exponential growth. We will continue to do our best at ensuring that the Command achieves its full potential of trade facilitation without hindrance.”
“Under export, the Command facilitated a total of 222.442.88 Metric tons involving 6, 253 trucks of export produce, with Free On Board (FOB) value of N32,448,564,533.1 only. The Nigeria export Supervision Scheme (NESS) realized during the period under review was N162,852,254.56 only. The 2.5% surcharge paid was N60,421,421.00 only, and 704 SGDs were utilized,” Comptroller Bomodi said.
While stating that the Command made a total of 513 interceptions valued at N1, 374,245,832.00, the Customs Area Controller charged the newly decorated officers as well as other officials to increase their dedication and commitment to their work in 2024.
“Today, we are witnessing the decoration of officers promoted to the next rank. We can’t have an organization that is stunted, when people within an organization are growing, the organization is actually growing. Promotion is also a way of telling the staff that their efforts are recognized and commendable. This is necessary for success. But the reward for good work is more work.”
“Regardless of what the increase in our revenue target for 2024 may be, we are already looking at multiple approaches to improve our services and conduct as officers. The decoration of officers today also boosts the morale of officers and we are going to see our activities blossom in 2024,” Comptroller Bomodi stated.
Some of the high-profile seizures by the Command in 2023 were; 14,181 50kg bags of rice which is equivalent to 24 trailers, 1,220,130 liters of premium motor spirit (PMS) which is equivalent to 37 tankers load, 39 smuggled vehicles, among others. 37 suspects were arrested in connection with different seizures, during the period under review.
