…NNPP expels 16 members over misconduct
By Deborah James
New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from recent rumours of a merger with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The National Executive Committee (NEC), National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees (BOT) of NNPP disclosed this during a press conference organized in Lagos, on Tuesday.
NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Abdulrazaq Abdulsalam, during the conference, stressed that NNPP is not in any merger or alliance talk with any other political party.
He, however, noted that any authentic merger talks or plans would have to be conducted with the party’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam and the NNPP founding members.
“The Original Certificate of Registration of the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is with the Founder of NNPP, Dr. Aniebonam,” Abdusalam said while adding that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been expelled from the party.
However, sixteen members of the party were expelled due to misconduct and failure to appear before the disciplinary committee of the NNPP.
The expelled include; Dr. Tosin Odeyemi – Osun State; Mr. Peter Ologunokun – Ondo State; Prince Ibrahim Adekunle, Amb. Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, Mr. Olowu Olayemi – Ogun State; Mr. Kazeem Badmus, Mr. Tunde Oke – South West; Barr. Femi Aina – Ogun West.
Others are; Alhaji Sidi Bako – Nasarawa State; Mr. Solomon Chukwu – Ebonyi State; Hon. Henfort Gorip – Plateau State; Rtd. Col. Geoffrey Onyejegbu, Pst. Ukachukwu, Stephen Onuigbo – Anambra State; Hon. Rex Onajite Ogboru, Mr. Fred Uwangue – Delta State.
Looking ahead to 2027, the committee encouraged new entrants and aspirants for Presidential, Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives; including State House of Assemblies and other elective positions in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022 and the NNPP constitution.
Abdusalam also called on INEC to speedily update the records of NNPP according to the constitution of the party and resolution of National Executive Committee, National Working Committee and Board of Trustees.
“Dr. Gilbert Major Agbo is the National Chairman of NNPP and Com. Oginni Olaposi Sunday is the National Secretary, and Dr. Temitope K.O. Aluko is the BOT Chairman, with reference to the Supreme Court Judgment that explicitly stated that it is only the political party that has the right to determine its membership, leadership, officers and candidates,” he stated.
