The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday decorated 186 officers who benefitted from the Service’s recent promotion exercise.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the FOU headquarters in Ikeja, Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu, Controller in charge of the unit, congratulated the newly promoted officers and stressed that the elevations were not just about new ranks but a recognition of loyalty and hard work.
“The promotions being celebrated here today are not just titles conferred; they are a reflection of your commitment to excellence, your patriotism, and your steadfast service to the Nigeria Customs Service and to our great nation,” the Customs FOU boss said.
Comptroller Shuaibu commended the officers for their diligence and professionalism, adding that the promotion is not just a step up in rank; it is a call to higher standards of leadership and accountability.
He urged the officers to wear their new ranks with humility, lead by example, and mentor their colleagues as true leadership is not about titles or positions; it is about service, empathy, and dedication to a cause greater than oneself.
Shuaibu also encouraged officers who were not promoted to remain patient and committed. “Promotion is not a race; it is a journey. Continue to serve with commitment and integrity. Your time will come,” he assured.

He recalled that during the 63rd Regular Meeting of the NCS Board chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, a total of 3,312 senior officers were promoted across the Service.
Providing the breakdown for FOU Zone A, Shuaibu revealed that seven officers were promoted from Assistant Comptroller to Deputy Comptroller, six from Chief Superintendent to Assistant Comptroller, 22 from Superintendent to Chief Superintendent, and 27 from Deputy Superintendent to Superintendent. Others include 23 promoted from ASC I to Deputy Superintendent, 42 from ASC II to ASC I, 48 from Inspector to ASC II, and 11 from Assistant Inspector to Inspector.
He reminded the audience that promotion should be viewed as a checkpoint rather than the final destination.
“There are greater heights to attain, new challenges to confront, and more contributions to make toward the progress of our country,” he posited.
The well-attended ceremony featured the symbolic decoration of the officers in the presence of senior customs personnel, stakeholders, and family members, ending on a celebratory note with cheers and applause.
