Nigeria and Tanzania have taken a bold step toward deeper regional maritime integration as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) formalized a new partnership on the sidelines of the IMO General Assembly.
In a high-level bilateral meeting, NIMASA DG, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, and Dr. Devotha Edward Mandanda, Alternate Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the IMO, endorsed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to accelerate cooperation and strengthen Africa’s collective maritime capacity.
The MoU signals a shared commitment to enhanced maritime surveillance, stronger seafarer training and capacity development, improved cabotage administration, expanded use of digital systems and information platforms, continuous knowledge and expertise exchange.
Both countries agreed that this partnership represents a new chapter in regional maritime collaboration – one that will help build resilient institutions, elevate maritime governance, and position Africa as a stronger force in the global maritime space.
Also in attendance were the NIMASA Governing Board Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar, Executive Directors of the Agency, and Nigeria’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the IMO, William Bwala.
