AMANO Gets First Female Chapter Chairperson, As Lagos Elects New Executives

In a landmark development for the Alumni of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron (AMANO), the Lagos Chapter has elected Miss Loveth Haruna as its first-ever female Chairman.

The election, which held on Friday, witnessed full participation by members and has been described as free, fair, and credible.

According to the Election Committee, a total of 64 votes were received and counted. Haruna secured all 64 votes, displaying her overwhelming support and endorsement from the chapter members.

Other elected executives include: Essiet Aniekan as Vice Chairman; Tobi Kalejaiye as Secretary-General; Akhighu Louis as Assistant Secretary-General; Frank Anthony as Welfare Secretary; Reuben Untenge as Financial Secretary; Esther Mogoli as Treasurer; and Ngwoke Pueth as Provost Marshal.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) position was the only contested seat, with Adekunle Sowade polling 35 votes to defeat Gbadeyan Oluwaseun, who garnered 29 votes.

Haruna, the newly elected Lagos AMANO chairperson, has expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work collaboratively with her team to drive initiatives that will strengthen the chapter.

Maritime stakeholders have also hailed the outcome as a major step toward gender inclusion and leadership diversity within the sector.
