The Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Comptroller Gambo Aliyu, on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to the family of Assistant Superintendent of Customs I (ASC I) Mustapha Olalekan Akiyode, the officer who was shot dead while on duty.
Aliyu led a delegation of senior officers to the late officer’s residence at Ita Oshe, Abeokuta, Ogun State, where they were received by grieving relatives in a quiet and emotional atmosphere marked by prayers and reflection.
According to a statement by the unit’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Hussaini Abdullahi, the visit was aimed at personally identifying with the family and offering the support of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at a moment of profound loss.
Aliyu conveyed the condolences of the Comptroller-General of Customs and the entire NCS family to Akiyode’s widow, children and extended family, describing the fallen officer as a dedicated public servant who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
He reassured the family that the Service would stand by them and remain committed to their welfare, stressing that they would not be left alone to bear the burden of the tragedy.
The Customs boss also assured the family that justice would be pursued, saying investigations were ongoing to track down those responsible for the killing. He said all necessary resources had been deployed to ensure the perpetrators are identified, arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.
In an emotional moment, Aliyu offered prayers for the repose of Akiyode’s soul and for strength for his family, noting that while the loss was painful, the Service takes solace in the belief that the late officer died in honourable service to the nation.
ASC I Mustapha Olalekan Akiyode was killed in the early hours of 3 February 2026 after being ambushed by unidentified gunmen along the Ilara-Ijoun axis in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State. He is survived by his wife and children.
