Bernard-Ugochinyere Emerges IAWPA Peace Ambassador
The Chief Executive Officer of Pro-Save Life Pharmacy & Stores Ltd and Robust Supermarket in Lagos, Dr. Anita Bernard-Ugochinyere has been inducted as a Eminent Peace Ambassador by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA).
IAWPA confered the award on Dr. Anita in Lagos on Saturday at a grand ceremony where several Igbo dignitaries also received the honour.
After receiving the award, Dr. Anita expressed gratitude to the convener, even as she opined that Nigeria needs more peace ambassadors at a point when the nation is plagued by conflicts and protests.
“Looking at the protests going on in Nigeria, the responsibility is on Eminent Peace Ambassadors like myself to foster peace. I am actually grateful that the protests have been relatively peaceful. There haven’t been violent attacks witnessed in the past,” she said.
The award recipient, however, recalled her long journey to her current status; revealing that at a tender age of 18 years, she took up the challenge of combining work at Portnewspaper as an Advert officer with part-time studies at Lagos City Polytechic Ikeja where she obtained a Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
She later attended IRGIB Africa University in Benin Republic, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science (Bsc) in Computer Science.
Dr. Anita has wide expertise ranging from maritime to oil and gas with several years with Energyedge Oil & Gas Limited; while banking exploits saw her work in Fidelity Bank PLC, Polaris Bank Limited, and later the First Bank of Nigeria.
The association, which has a Danish President, Mr. Per Stefson, has been making notable Nigerians Eminent Peace Ambassadors to promote universal peace, justice and inclusive society.
In his remarks, the IAWPA President, Mr. Per Stefson said the organization is one that thrives on networks and connections.
“I’m very excited because we have gotten new members and increased our network in Lagos. The goal is to prioritize peace. I also congratulate the new Eminent Peace Ambassadors,” he said.
