The Tincan Island Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has refuted reports alleging cargo vandalism and the activities of “wharf rats” at Tin Can Island Port, describing the claims as unauthorized and not reflective of the chapter’s position.

In a statement issued by the chapter’s Secretary, Nwegbe Frankypaul, the Chairman, Prince Olawale Cole, clarified that comments attributed to a member of the association in the circulating media report were made without the knowledge or approval of the chairman.

The chapter stressed that the remarks do not represent its official position, noting that ANLCA operates a clear communication protocol guiding members’ engagement with the media on issues concerning the association.

According to the statement, investigations conducted by the chapter’s executive in collaboration with the management of Five Star Logistics Terminal showed that no member or individual had lodged any formal complaint of missing cargo or vandalism with the terminal’s claims department regarding the allegations.

It also noted that the video circulating with the report does not appear to have originated from the Five Star terminal facility at Tin Can Island Port and is not linked to cargo stored at the Sallum warehouse.

The association urged the public to avoid linking the footage to operations at the terminal.

The statement explained that the terminal operates a designated claims department where incidents involving cargo damage or vandalism are officially reported and documented to enable proper investigation and resolution.

ANLCA further reminded members that granting media interviews or issuing public statements on matters concerning the chapter requires prior authorization from the chairman.

Speaking further, the chapter’s Secretary, Nwegbe Frankypaul, urged members and port users to avoid spreading unverified information that could create unnecessary tension within the port community.

He emphasized that the association remains committed to addressing stakeholders’ concerns through proper institutional channels and encourages transparent documentation of complaints.

Also speaking, the chapter’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Mrs Onome Joy, called on stakeholders with credible evidence of vandalized cargo or vehicles at the port to report through appropriate channels for documentation and follow-up.

She also urged the management of Five Star Logistics Terminal to strengthen security measures to meet stakeholders’ expectations regarding cargo safety.

Joy added that the association’s task force remains actively engaged in monitoring activities at the terminal and working with operators to ensure security procedures are effectively implemented.

The chapter reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, responsible communication, and constructive engagement with stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
